In 2001, L.A. Louver initiated its Rogue Wave program, examining artists living and working in Los Angeles. Curated by Founding Director Peter Goulds and Chief Preparator Christopher Pate, the ambitious group exhibition Rogue Wave '01 brought the works of 13 diverse emerging and mid-career artists into the gallery, reflecting a spectrum of studio activities that identify Southern California as one of the most exciting contemporary art scenes in the world.
The gallery organized additional Rogue Wave shows in 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2013. Inspired by the enthusiasm for these group exhibitions, L.A. Louver launched Rogue Wave Projects as a platform of engagement with local contemporary artists, resulting in solo projects with Eduardo Sarabia (2009), Olga Koumoundouros (2010) and Matt Wedel (2010). At the start of 2012, we undertook our first international Rogue Wave Projects exhibition – Supermassive, by the Brisbane, Australia-based new media artist Grant Stevens.
