“History exists temporarily and people take place. Events are carried away to different directions through the mind as images. Images dissolve across the passage of years into memory. Stories are told, songs are sung. Hearts become rooms set aside, and hallucination begins.”
— Terry Allen

Loosely based on a childhood friend, Anterabbit/Bleeder (a biography) is a fictional account of the life and mythos of an enigmatic Texas gambler, religious fanatic, possible gangster, magician and hemophiliac, as described in a non-linear narrative shaped through history, events, images, memory and hallucinations.

The piece consisted of three parts: an exhibition/installation that was shown at the La Jolla Museum of Contemporary Art (1983), with a corresponding theater piece performed at the museum’s Sherwood Auditorium at the time of the exhibition, and the radio show Bleeder (1990), produced for NPR.
